I didn’t fully understand the importance of having original characters until I created my very own string band. As 2014 draws to a close, I decided to do one last squiggle sketch of all my human mascot babies since I haven’t drawn them in a long while and I really liked the sketch of Castell I did for my Sketch Santa Project so I figured why not, for the fun of it.

And man oh man, look how far I’ve come. Look how far they’ve come. As their creator, I know exactly how these kids looked before and to see them NOW, right now! I’m astonished. I mean just look at the February squiggles in comparison to the December sketches. I remember someone on DA telling me that all my human mascot babies look the same and as much as I hated to admit back then...they were right.
Now look at them. Do they all look the same now?

I’m ESPECIALLY proud at Sugar turned out. I remember thinking back in February that Sugar baby looked way too much like my girls. Don’t get me wrong. It was a nice drawing but, just not him. I needed to chisel him up and sharpen his features a bit more. Now look at him. I am in awe at how well Sugar turned out. You guys have no freaking idea how FREAKING LONG it has taken me to find a face for him that I’m actually satisfied with.

Now look at him; look at my sweet baby. He’s so gorgeous and perfect I can just scream and I only drew him yesterday *Gai sensei thumbs up* *cue chorus of angels singing* #Achievement Unlocked*

Man I wish I could just show you guys more of the past sketches of my babies just to better emphasize the real journey I’ve come with all three of them. But for now, I think this best says it all. I’m honestly so happy with this. I initially created my mascot babies as a means of helping me get better at drawing characters and to be the ones to showcase my development. Well, the proof is in the pudding, right?

I strongly need to draw my babies more. Here’s to seeing more of them in 2015~
