Description

Hey guys,
Some of you peeps have asked me since I’m doing animation, how come I’ve never posted up any of the animations that I did. There are actually two answers to that question.

:bulletblue: One, I never thought about it before until recently and I regret not doing this sooner :slow:
:bulletblue: And two, every time I try DA sorta screws me over a bit. Apparently the only animations that this sites accepts are flash animations and animated gifs and unfortunately, none of my shit were made with flash. If they accepted .mov files or Quicktime files then cool.

Anyways, since I’m approaching the finish line with my film project (still very far away but a lot closer than I was months ago) and since you all sounded so interested in knowing my film, I’ve decided to stop hiding in the dark and finally share with you guys some of the conceptual work that I did for my film.

So every few days depending on the number of favs or comments that I receive, I’ll post up some art from my film for all you awesome people just so you can see finally get a load of the freaking hard work I’ve been swamped doing for the past 2 years of my life.
Who knows maybe seeing this might inspire or spark the interest of some of you peeps who are interested in learning animation, y’know?
But be warned, this shit is NOT easy! IT REALLY IS NOT!

If you guys like my concept art and if I receive more than 10 favs for this, I’ll post more stuff and let you all in on more “behind the scenes” info for my film.

Behold, some early concept artwork for my student film “Chu-PiDe” featuring two of the characters. Early as in the story has changed but regardless of the alternation in plot, my film still retains the original concept for the film.

Since I’m interested to hear what you all think of my film project, I’ll share with you the original concept for Chu-PiDe (derived straight from the original production bible for the film):

Check it out------>

Concept
“The path to becoming a good parent is like a hero’s journey

“Chu-PiDe” explains the joys and pains of parenthood through the eyes of Trinidad’s national bird. It follows the story of a Scarlet Ibis who only desires to be a good father to his child and throughout the story; he will face several challenges that will test him as a parent. But only by having confidence in his own parenting skills, this father will soon realize that the only right way to be a good parent is to trust in himself.

:star: TONE:star:
“Chu-PiDe” uses slapstick humour to convey the film’s overall theme which is “Parenting isn’t easy”. By using humour in coordination with simple storyline and loveable characters, the viewers can enjoy a heartfelt comedy especially parents who might relate to the situation occurring in the film.

So what do you guys think.
This is early concept art for the character "Florence the Caiman".

Originally Florence was created as the sly villain of my story but unfortunately had to be SCRAPPED coming down to the end.

ANIMATION FACT NO#1
If there's one thing that I learned from doing being animation student who has to make a film, when you create a story with more than one character, regardless of how developed or insignificant the character's role in the story, try not to get too attached to your characters or your story and be prepared to make drastic changes in order to finish your film.

Because when dealing with deadlines, you may find yourself cutting out characters who were originally had important roles or reshaping your entire story.
I learned this the hard way while making my film. I had to cut out the main villain and catalyst of my story and by eliminating the turning point, I had create a new turning point and change my story completely (to the point that it's a shadow of the original story) while still maintaining the concept and theme I'm attempting to evoke to my audience.

It was a tough decision but one I had to make for the sake of finishing my film and meeting the deadline.

ANIMATION FACT NO#2
In animation, there are two things that mainly matter.
Finishing your work and meeting your deadlines. You can't do only one. You have to do both in order to survive in the industry.

If you can't finish you work, then you can't meet the deadline and if you don't meet the deadline, even if you do manage to finish your work, it wouldn't matter because you missed your deadline.
This...is the shit!

To all my Avatards, this is what Bryan, Michael and their whole animation team have to go through in order to produce each and every last episode of Legend of Korra.

Anyways...(sorry for rambling) in my next post, I'll provide more info on my film if you guys are interested.
Until then, enjoy what I have do far and let me know what you think :)

Very nice Shade! If the concept art is anything to go by, your film's going to look amazing. I'm already excited to see your final project. :D

I'm curious what software you guys are using though? Something like Toon Boom or Pencil? (It's ok if it's a secret though, you don't have to tell me ;))

Anyway, more power to you guys. Keep up the awesome work! :)
